Handloom

Handloom VS Power loom

Clothing is an important piece of art that reflects an individual’s personality and a region’s culture. They are also an essential element of human life. Clothes enhance the personal appearance and protect the body from extreme temperatures. Clothes are made from a variety of fabrics and are obtained from plants, animals, and insects. There are two prominent ways of making a fabric i.e.; handloom and power loom. Different apparel like sarees, shirts, t-shirts, pants, etc, are made of handloom and power loom. Both these techniques are way different from one another.

Know about Handloom

India is always known for its impeccable craftsmanship and has always been at the forefront of the textile industry. In this technique, the clothes are weaved manually without the aid of electricity or machines. Handloom started as a necessity when there was no electricity. Originated in the form of a necessity, handloom weaving is now a handcrafted skill and is most preserved. There is no precise information as to when this was started. Handloom production is eco-friendly, inexpensive, and easy to install.

Know about Power loom

Power loom is a technique where the cloth is mechanically weaved and driven by a steam engine or electric looms. Until the 1850s, the power loom industry was a costly affair, and post that period, power looms came in boom and there was a rise in demand for power loom clothes. As they are mechanically operated, these are 10 times faster than handlooms. However, the quality of a handloom weave cannot be matched to any power loom weave.
